ReCovered: "Ne Me Quitte Pas"



In 1959, the Belgian songwriter, actor, and film director Jacques Brel (1929-1978) wrote a mournful little ballad entitled  "Ne Me Quitte Pas" (which translates, quite simply, as "Don't Leave Me").  According to legend, rumor, and gossip, this song was a response to the departure of his inamorata, Suzanne Gabriello, with whom Brel had dealt in most dishonorable manner.  (The details...
