Evolution of a ballad: "Aura Lea"



This one is very familiar: if you live anywhere in the Western world, you can probably identify this song after hearing seven notes; if you live in North America, it will probably only take four notes.  Published in 1864, this was one of the most popular songs of the War for Southern Independence, written by W.
